I like to approach connecting with plant spirits from:  1. a mediumistic and 2. metaphorical perspective.

1. Tune into your breath, your heart and your own personal energy. Imagine your energy as a direct extension of your breath.  You receive air and energy from the space around you, and you release your energy out, with each breath. Your breath forms a connection with the leaves of your environment.  Imagine your energy, through your breath, branching up and out, sending shoots up towards the light, into the sky.  Your energy travels higher and spreads out until you are far above the ground.  Then begin the metaphorical exploration

2. Consider the theme of LEAVES, STEMS and BRANCHES.

Branches and leaves have an ability to “see” their environment and sense where they are. They know where the light is and when they are approaching obstacles; how do they know this? What would it be like to sense your environment beyond your sense of eyesight? Branches and stems are a highway of moving energy, nutrients, and communication between the roots and leaves. Feel the flow of sap, water, and sugars. Stems move quickly, swiftly, and towards the light.  They push and reach. Reach out towards your leaves. What does it feel like to respirate or breath as a leaf? Consider photosynthesis, the conversion of carbon dioxide and sunlight into usable nutrients. How would it feel to hold this alchemy within you? What can you see, what do you know?

Remember to let the energy of the plant you’ve connected with help show you what lessons may be most beneficial for you.

When you’re done, consider doing some journaling. What did you learn? How does this relate to your life? When might it be beneficial to remember the experience of being branches, stems, or leaves? Are there any messages from the spirit you connected with that you wish to record?

Make an offering of thanks, use your intuition to determine what that is.
