As a general introduction, I like to approach connecting with plant spirits from:  1. a mediumistic and 2. metaphorical perspective.

1. Tune into your breath, your heart and your own personal energy. Imagine your energy as a glowing light in the center of your chest. With each breath, the light grows. It fills your entire body. It begins to expand beyond your physical body. It fills the space around you. From this expanded point of awareness, ask if a plant spirit would like to come forward and meet your energy. Then begin the metaphorical exploration—

2. Consider the theme of ROOTS.

What do roots do? Experience yourself as a network of roots. Allow your awareness to travel intuitively through the experience: how would you move, what would you see and feel, what is your experience over time, who or what do you interact with, how do you relate to the broader perspective of a tree or plant? Consider the relationship between mycelium and roots, separate but together. Experience the presence of other root systems around you. The water and soil, rock and decaying matter.

Remember to let the energy of the plant you’ve connected with help show you what lessons may be most beneficial for you.

When you’re done, consider doing some journaling. What did you learn? How does this relate to your life? When might it be beneficial to remember the experience of being roots? Are there any messages from the spirit you connected with that you wish to record?

Make an offering of thanks, use your intuition to determine what that is.
